Josh May is an up-and-coming trumpet player and arranger in the Twin Cities. Through his undergraduate studies in Music Performance and Jazz Studies at Bemidji State University, he had a month long residency with a fusion band in China, as well as a semester as a lead trumpet player for the Hochschule Luzern Universität Big Band in Lucerne, Switzerland. After Bemidji, he moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to complete a Masters in Jazz Studies at Louisiana State University, where he shared the stage with the likes of Wayne Bergeron, Bobby Shew, Peter Erskine, Diane Reeves, and the Temptations. Living in Louisiana, Josh has learned extensively about the culture of Brass Band Music, and brought that knowledge and skillset with him to the Twin Cities to become a regular performing member with both the Jack Brass Band, and McNasty Brass Band.
Josh joined GBF officially as lead trumpet player in October 2022, and has since become co-arranger with our Musical Director, Brad Callahan. In 2021, he became head-arranger for a new band with GBF Guitarist, Will Hutchinson, and GBF Drummer, Dean White; the Drums of Navarone.
